Nadine

Nadine was born on August 7, 2000 and she passed September 18, 2021. She had just turned 21 when she found out she had cancer. She had her life set for herself, She knew what she wanted and she was gonna get it no matter what. She had a bucket list of things she wanted to try and do. She wanted to travel, try new foods, go to Disneyland and see her favorite artist billie eilish. She had it all set but life had other plans for her and she accepted that even with the fear she knew she was the strong one for this path in her life to happen. Some things about Nadine was that she had the biggest heart you could ever imagine and she loved every flaw and beauty of a person.

John

John was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma and Hyper IgE Syndrome (a rare immunodeficiency disease) when he was young. In March 2021, he underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant, but due to complications, he remained in the hospital for months. Since day 1, his body contracted different infections that affected his lungs, liver, bladder, and kidneys. As a result, he underwent constant blood transfusions, leaving him physically depleted. For John, every day was a struggle to do the simplest things - like eat, sit up, or even some days open his eyes; however, he stayed strong through it all.

Samuel Lee Quiñones was an eleven-year-old boy that endured a battle with brain cancer for the past year and a half. After three brain surgeries, and bouts with chemotherapy, he passed away one month shy of his twelfth birthday. He loved Spiderman, and being his dad's sidekick. His favorite times were enjoying Angels games, and eating at Hotties Pizza with his family. He is survived by his father and older brother. All he ever wanted was to see everybody happy. He is our hero. Samuel is forever with us!

Xavier Meza was a 7 yr old boy who fought through cancer over the last 2+ years of his life. He endured standard chemotherapy as well as a Bone Marrow Transplant. Johanna had been accepted to college in New York to study to become a writer when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of her left arm. She was a very bright young woman with a strong heart and a determined spirit. She was determined to fight her disease and endured many months of chemotherapy, an arm amputation, lung surgeries and radiation. She fought for nearly two years, seeking any treatment possible, and had the never ending support of her younger sister, mother and father. She unfortunately died before her sister's quincinero, which Johanna was planning for her. Johanna is forever with us!

Damian was our 7 year old little dude who battled a neuroepithelial tumor and had many long stays here at CHOC. During his admissions, he loved playing Mario 3D World on Wii, watching Toy Story, and participating in art classes. Some of his favorites were making tie dye shirts and drawing pictures for his mom. He loved to play the interactive games hosted by Seacrest Studios and was frequently broadcasted across CHOC's tv channel. He will be greatly missed by all who cared for him and got to know his beautiful soul and fun personality. Damian will forever be with us!

Sixta

Sixta was born in Mexico, March 30 2006, she was named in honor of her great-grandmother Sixta Santana. She was an exceptionally smart and healthy baby. Those who knew Sixta describe her as a friendly and timid girl, there were never any complaints of her from anybody. She attended preschool in Mexico then moved to California and attended elementary school in Santa Ana. Learning a new language was not impossible for such an intelligent little girl. In Diamond elementary school Sixta's interest for the violin bloomed, so she continued to play it in Carr intermediate school’s mariachi and orchestra. Through the middle school years Sixta was involved in extracurricular a ctivities and stayed after school. Aside from being an A-grade student, Sixta was a role model for her siblings and an extra set of hands for her parents. She would wake up everyday at 5 in the morning to get ready for school, then wake up her siblings so they’d get ready.

Xi "Bodhi" Yu was diagnosed with DIPG in April 2021. In the short time we were blessed to know him, he stole our hearts. Bodhi was so smart and loved to play on his iPad. His FAVORITE game was Plants Vs Zombies and his big beautiful smile was a delight to watch as he shared his victories with us. He and his family will surely be missed by his oncology team. Adilene was diagnosed with a yolk sac tumor, stage 4 ovarian cancer. She went through numerous rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, stem cell transplants, and blood transfusions. Through it all Adilene was courageous and rarely showed the pain she was going through. She was strong willed and it showed, Adilene’s fight left doctors and family shocked. Throughout her last days, she reassured her family that she was okay and she loved them. She went to be with the Lord at 3:45 in the morning, on Saturday May 15, 2021. Adilene will forever be with us!

Rose was six years old when she became an angel. She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 1. Rose was in treatment for cancer the majority of her life. She underwent standard chemotherapy and radiation. In addition, due to the aggressive nature of her disease, Rose underwent innovative treatments for her cancer including CAR-T Cell Treatment and a Bone Marrow Transplant. Rose lives with her mother and her younger sister. Rose's mother provided full-time caregiving support to Rose throughout her journey with cancer. Everyone at UCLA will miss Rose dearly. Yesenia

Yesenia was a 20 year old female with Ewing's sarcoma. Her prognosis was poor and Yesenia had relapsed. Yesenia continued to be optimistic and lived her life wanting to do all the normal things she could do. Yesenia had been able to complete her Make a Wish and traveled to Europe before she started to decline. Yesenia had a loving mother that continued to support her academic goals as she continued to attend classes despite her rigorous medical treatment. Yesenia looked and appeared normal from the outside and that's exactly how she wanted people to see her. Unfortunately, Yesenia passed on 11/23/2020 from complications of her progressive disease. Her family has been struggling to meet the financial demands of her funeral expenses. We are so happy to be there for Yesenia, she is forever with us.

Where to begin with "Keba." Her passing has been felt deeply. Keba was such a happy and outgoing young woman. She underwent extensive and intensive radiation and chemotherapy treatment to contain the growth of her tumors. She was an avid runner before the Ewing sarcoma took her ability to ever run again. She learned new skills while she remained in the hospital and created amazing art pieces. Her family and her team were witnesses at the enormous transformation she underwent both physically and spiritually. Her last days were not easy. Keba's family and her team were able to honor her wishes to remain in the hospital until she passed. Keba created such happy and memorable memories with everyone she met. Keba is forever with us.

Charlie Randal Dempsey was a fighter. He had a fierce inner strength and the most tender heart. He loved all animals and had a natural calmness with them. He also Ioved chicken wings and rainy days.

Charlie graduated from San Juan Hills High School with the ambitions to become a nurse. He had battled brain cancer through high school and had learned a lot about the dark days of treatment. He wanted to take all of his experience and go out into the world to help other children and families in that battle. He taught us all about faith over fear! Charlie loved music, he sang in the chamber choir as well as often playing his guitar in his church worship band. He had great friends and a community that adored him and will cherish his memory always.
