Dear Childhood Cancer, A year ago today you came into our lives. Slowly you have caused us so much pain and heartache. In the time span of only 12 months you caused Jocelyn to go through 4 craniotomies, surgery to put in a chest port, surgery to put in a shunt, 2 rounds of radiation, tons of infusion treatments, chemo, hospital stays, MANY medications, and much more! Throughout this year she has also suffered hair loss, body pain, headaches, stomach pain, loss of strength on her right and left side, loss of time with friends & family, & most heartbreaking of all you took away her ability of being on the soccer field and doing what she LOVES most!! The tears we have lost because of you are painful to recall, not to mention all the worries and concerns we saw and continue to see in her siblings, Julissa and Robert & our family. You’ve caused so much worry and hurt. HOWEVER, we don’t write this to focus on the negatives…we write this to let you know that a lot of good has also come out of all of this!! Despite all of the hardships you have caused, Jocelyn’s strength has inspired many and made us all STRONGER in more ways than one. Because of her strength our family is closer than ever! Because of her, communities have come together in prayer! Because of her, many have shared they’ve grown their relationship with God or have one they’ve never had! No matter how much pain you have caused and no matter how much you’ve taken from us our FAITH is now STRONGER and our LOVE for GOD is now greater!!! We have felt the presence of God in our lives like never before & that, YOU will never take away from us! On November 10th, 2021, just a bit over a year since she had been diagnosed, you took our baby girl away. At only 11 years old Jocelyn became an angel. This pain is like no other, but we know that God chooses special people to become angels and Jocelyn was definitely a special little girl! We will miss Jocelyn so much, but we are reminded daily that because of her we ARE NOW STRONGER in LOVE, STRONGER in FAITH, and STRONGER as a FAMILY! You are now pain free….Fly high baby girl!!
