Kairi
Kairi was both sassy and sweet, and our whole team fell in love with her during her lengthy hospitalization. She was a talented artist, and we treasured the portrait drawings of nursing staff she had posted on her door (with a loving message thanking healthcare heroes, aww.) She went through this grueling journey in her own way- not wanting staff to hover over her, definitely not wanting to be called "Miss Kairi," and definitely, definitely not wanting a "sad bagel" (ie a plain bagel with nothing on it.) We are holding her Mom Kim, her stepdad Albert, and her siblings Kaylene and Adam in our thoughts and hearts during this most difficult time, and it was truly an honor to be part of her care. (From Miranda, Clinical Social Worker)
When Kairi was diagnosed with Leukemia our family was rocked. We were in disbelief and heartbroken. But we remembered that Kairi has always been so strong that although it was going to be terribly difficult for her to go through... if anyone could make it she could. She kicked cancer's butt without even trying. Even when she was in so much pain she'd manage to crack a smile or a joke. She was our light. Her smile could light up the world and our hearts will never be whole again without her. But we take comfort that she is no longer in pain. Although her fight didn't end the way we wanted to, her memory will live on in all of us and every single person who's life she has touched. (From Kairi's Mom, Kim)
Sweet and beautiful Kairi is forever with us.
